What do you do when you are not playing chess?
Mostly, playing tennis. I play for a local club and help with coaching.

Why did you join the club?
Initially because I wanted experience playing against adults.

What do you like about chess?
I like chess because it is competitive and strategic but also because it is fun and there are lots of people I can have a laugh with in between rounds.

What’s the best thing about being a member?
I would say it’s because everyone knows everyone so we all get on well and it is quite a close-knit community.

Tell us something about your successes in chess
I started playing chess when I was 8. When I was 10 I started playing for Kent and when I was 14 I earned my first cap for Ireland. I am the current joint Kent ladies champion.

Who is your chess hero?
Judit Polgar because she is the first woman to be as good as the top men and her story is inspirational.

What chess book have you found most helpful?
Strategy books are the most helpful because it is what I need to work on the most so the books have really helped to improve that side of my game.
