Treasurer

What do you do when you are not playing chess?
It depends on the day! I started my career in banking. Now I have two small businesses, the first in HR which I created with ex colleagues. My second is a jointly-owned garage near Lakeside that specialises in power steering repair. I also have two children who keep me busy!

What is your role in the club?
I am the Treasurer, I captain a team, and I coach juniors at intermediate level.

Why did you join the club?
I moved to Orpington and decided to look for a local club.

What do you like about chess?
It’s an international game, wherever you are you speak the same “rules”. It’s a strategic and intense game: you can play a game in under a minute or in a couple of hours!

What’s the best thing about being a member?
Definitely the members, they make the club. They are friendly, from different nationalities and ages.

Who is your chess hero?
I grew up following the two Ks, definitely Garry Kasparov.

What chess book have you found most helpful?
Chess openings – Traps and Zaps by Bruce Pandolfini.
