What do you do when you are not playing chess?
I’m retired after a career in computing in the city – I play tennis to keep fit and I like travelling.

What do you most like about chess?
It’s good fun, good exercise for the brain, you can play online for free anytime of the day and there’s always scope to improve.

Why did you join the club?
To meet and play other people, play competitively and hopefully get better at chess.

What’s the best thing about being a member?
Friday night club nights are great and there are often team matches to play in.

Tell us something about your experience and involvement at the club
I’ve been a member of the club for around six years, and am the captain of one of the club’s teams in the Kent Chess league.

Who is your chess hero?
My dad as he taught me the game.

What chess book have you found most helpful?
Jeremy Silman’s Reassess your Chess is the best chess book I’ve read.
