What do you do when you are not playing chess?

I like to play and watch football. I am a Liverpool fan and I frequently go and watch Dartford FC play. I also enjoy reading books, especially Harry Potter. I have lots of pets which I enjoy playing with and I have a penpal in Greece.

What do you most like about chess?
The satisfaction of playing brilliant moves. Chess stretches my brain and I enjoy that. It rewards original thinking.

Why did you join the club?
Because I am passionate about learning from others and meeting and playing against better players to improve my own game. I also wanted to try and be part of a chess team in the future.

What’s the best thing about being a member?
Meeting people that I otherwise wouldn’t have met. Learning from the tactics lessons and putting that into practice. Getting to represent the Club at tournaments.

Tell us something about your experience and involvement at the club
I participated in a tournament for the first time and enjoyed it. I am signed up to do the next tournament and am excited about that.

Who is your chess hero?
Obviously, Magnus Carlsen! I also admire Daniil Dubov and Vishy Anand as they play brilliant sacrificial chess.

What chess book have you found most helpful?
The World’s Greatest Chess Games by John Nunn, John Emms and Graham Burgess. 125 Brilliant games!
